About the role

  • Providing live interpretation (English ↔ French) during virtual or in-person meetings, workshops, and trainings.
  • Supporting simultaneous interpretation for group events and consecutive interpretation for smaller discussions or interviews.
  • Preparing in advance by reviewing meeting materials, agendas, or presentation content shared beforehand.
  • Ensuring confidentiality, accuracy, and neutrality in all communications.
  • Providing language and cultural clarification as needed to enhance understanding.
  • Occasionally translating short written content (e.g., meeting notes, chat summaries, or materials) as requested.
  • Accurate and timely interpretation for all assigned meetings or events.
  • Availability for pre-meeting briefings when required.
  • Professional communication and conduct consistent with Inkomoko’s values.
  • Submission of a brief monthly activity summary (list of sessions interpreted, duration, feedback).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Translation, Languages, Communication, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of professional experience in French–English interpretation, ideally in development, business, or NGO settings.
  • Demonstrated experience providing remote simultaneous interpretation using Zoom or similar platforms.
  • Excellent command of both English and French (native or near-native fluency).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with East African or Francophone African contexts is an advantage.
Benefits
  • Payment will be made per hour or per session based on an agreed rate.
  • The interpreter will submit an invoice at the end of each month listing dates and durations of services provided.
  • Rates will be determined based on experience and Inkomoko’s consultant fee schedule.
