About the role

  • Work with global engineering teams to understand advanced technologies and their implications on next generation products
  • Conduct design studies of appropriate fidelity and project analysis with minimal guidance, meeting business standards and requirements
  • Create plans to meet technical needs, solve problems, and report status to leadership
  • Ensure utilization of business and organization best practices and design practices
  • Ensure study outcomes are properly documented
  • Part of a cross-functional team of adjacent disciplines (Aerothermal, Cycle/Performance, Mechanical, Cost, Systems) to drive optimal engine design & cost to meet technical and business objectives
  • Own the cross-section for preliminary design architecture studies, including weight roll-ups and mechanical component sizing, to support successful execution of program deliverables
  • Monitor and communicate project status, business issues and significant developments
  • Perform weight reviews and audits as required for customer commitments and design space studies
  • Development and integration of parametric tools to enable parametric design space exploration and optimization studies
  • Prepare invention disclosures to protect technology that gives the business a competitive advantage, as well as protecting the intellectual property rights of the company
  • Lead or participate in organizational efforts in assigned projects and/or tasks

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degrees in Aeronautical/Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering departments from an accredited college or university
  • 5+ years of experience in an engineering position
  • 8+ years' experience in mechanical engineering position (preferred)
  • Strong knowledge in mechanical, gas turbine or propulsion design fundamentals
  • Experience in detail product design
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Systems thinking, ability to simplify complex, uncertain problems to find solutions with positive business outcomes
  • Experience with Unigraphics NX or similar CAD program
  • Prior experience performing with global cross-functional teams
  • Problem analysis and resolution skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
