About the role
- CAE/CFD analysis of Air Handling Subsystem (ductwork, registers, cowl intake, extraction path, HVAC unit)
- Run CAE/CFD and bench testing, interpret data and communicate across Design Studio, Body Interior & Exterior, Thermal Systems, Program Teams and Vehicle Architecture
- Apply thermal/fluid modeling methodologies and analysis techniques to drive design and development of Air-Handling Subsystem on ICE, hybrid and electrified powertrains
- Collaborate across functional teams during product development
- Support product development process from analysis to optimization of interior airflow delivery
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field with a focus on Thermodynamics, Heat Transfer and Fluid Mechanics
- 5+ years of experience working with 3D CFD software tools such as ANSYS/Fluent, Star-CCM+, OpenFOAM, ANSA
- 2+ years of proficiency in CAD tools such as CATIA, Teamcenter, 3DX
- 2+ years of working experience in analysis of thermal and fluid systems supporting product development
- 2+ years of programming experience (Java, Python, scripting)
- Masters or Ph.D in Mechanical engineering or a related engineering field with a focus on Thermodynamics or Heat Transfer (preferred)
- A background with both experimental and computational fluid mechanics (preferred)
- Experience with 3D Conjugate heat transfer modeling (preferred)
- Experience with method development in relation to Computational Fluid Dynamics (preferred)
- Experience with Human Comfort Modeling (preferred)
- Experience with the application of AI or LLM tools in the product development process (preferred)
- Understanding of the Ford Product Development systems and tools (preferred)
- Familiarity with Model Based System Engineering and System Engineering Best Practices (INCOSE) (preferred)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with flexibility to adjust to changing priorities
- Strong analytical abilities including data driven problem solving and root cause analysis
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States (visa sponsorship not available)
