About the role
- Directly supervises the field safety team in functioning as subject matter experts in health and safety matters, providing professional advice and guidance to the EDF ps field organization to drive safe practices at all levels.
- Provides leadership and management that emphasizes teamwork and collaborative working relationships to establish and achieve standards that comply with regulatory requirements and ensure the health and safety of the AO organization.
- Provides guidance to Site Safety Specialists to ensure HSES reach and influence at the AO site level.
- Develops policies, procedures, and programs necessary to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local health and safety regulations across the United States and Canada.
- Provides communications, training, education, and outreach to AO constituents regarding health and safety compliance topics to ensure the use of best practices in safety.
- Advises executive leadership and other constituents on matters related to health and safety operational and policy issues.
- Assesses organizational risk in health and safety, reports to appropriate organizational leadership, and recommends steps to mitigate risk and improve health and safety outcomes.
- Maintains metrics and benchmarking data for applicable program areas, to ensure proper reporting and support for increasing health and safety resources to match AO organizational development and infrastructure growth.
- Develop and implement strategic, business, financial and operational plans for the H&S AO Team to ensure proper coordination and cost effectiveness in support of EDF PS AO’s mission, goals, and objectives.
- Continuously evaluate business processes to ensure that the team is providing effective and efficient services to AO.
- Provides effective management of fiscal resources, including development of and compliance with budgets that support the achievement of AO and departmental safety goals.
- Ensures departmental IT systems utilized for health and safety program areas comply with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, as well as EDF ps policies.
- Works cooperatively and collaboratively with the AO leadership community to ensure a health and safety framework that supports AO efforts and is consistently responsive to the organization’s mission, goals, and objectives.
- Emphasizes exceptional customer service, proactive communication with the AO leadership community about the methods used to drive safety culture and comply with regulatory requirements within AO.
- Ensures departmental goals related to injury reductions are mutually supported and align with organizational priorities.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in science, Engineering or related Environmental Health and Safety disciplines from an accredited institution, Masters degree in Safety or related field preferred.
- One or more professional certifications in the field of safety (CSP), hazardous materials (CHMM), and/or industrial hygiene (CIH).
- Proven ability to develop, implement, and support safety programs across the US and Canada.
- Strong project management, organizational skills and knowledge of best management practices pertaining to the principles of safety in the energy field, as well as federal, state, and local regulations.
- Ability to independently manage long-term projects, create budget and timelines, identify contributors, and map process for completion.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills to effectively lead, motivate and influence others to improve safety outcomes and comply with regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to drive and close safety investigations and recommend outcomes that support and build the EDF ps safety culture in field locations.
- Ability to identify, attract, retain, grow, and evaluate talent.
- Ability to achieve results through others.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with EDF leadership community, EDF Customers and regulatory agencies, and government officials.
- Demonstrated ability to function in a high-stress, high stakes environment.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to present effectively to small and large groups.
- Demonstrated computer skills, and knowledge of various Microsoft software programs including but not limited to Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint (Office Suite).
- Must be willing and able to travel throughout North America, or internationally as required or directed.
- Due to the role and responsibilities of HSES, the incumbent must have a valid driver’s license and DMV record that demonstrates compliance with motor vehicle laws and safe driving practices during their entire time in this position, as permitted by state law.
