About the role

  • Work directly with the Port Engineer and Vessel Captain, applying Innovation, Integrity, and Efficiency and maintaining the Curtin Standard onboard
  • Perform engineering duties aboard marine vessels, including troubleshooting, maintenance, repair, and operation of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
  • Operate tow winches and deck machinery; clean and maintain engine room to company standards
  • Maintain inventories, work plans, create requisitions, and manage vessel readiness
  • Manage Deckhands and lead teams on vessel projects; partner with Port Engineer and Captain to plan work underway
  • Utilize and maintain Vessel Management System (VMS); participate in audits and compliance with Sub-M, ABS, and USCG requirements
  • Commission new vessels, plan critical spares, create standard operating procedures, and manage dry-dockings and repairs (senior levels)
  • Travel extensively and work long hours, weekends, and offshore assignments as required

Requirements

  • Dredge Experience Required
  • Clamshell Dredge Experience Preferred
  • Attention to detail / excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to handle stressful situations with focus, including safe and effective decision-making under potentially dangerous conditions
  • Continuously demonstrate a strong sense of responsibility and ownership by being proactive in all situations/tasks
  • Understanding the importance of being a mentor, the ability to invest in the development and success of others
  • Superior communication skills
  • Strong logistical and mechanical reasoning skills
  • Agility to traverse uneven ground and walk gangways at various heights
  • Agility to bend, stoop, or squat frequently and climb high steps/ladders several times a day
  • Ability to lift 40 pounds safely
  • Physical dexterity and strength to catch and handle lines; makeup tows with wire rigging; operate deck machinery
  • Ability to work below decks in an area that may experience periods of darkness; work in confined spaces
  • Ability to think clearly during stressful situations or during an emergency
  • Ability to perform emergency duties and use emergency equipment onboard the vessel
  • Demonstrate good personal hygiene, always maintain cleanliness

  • TWIC Card
  • MMC – OS/Wiper (Engineer I)
  • CG Med Cert
  • Passport
  • MMC QMED/Oiler (preferred for Engineer I; required for Engineer II+)
  • Able Seaman Endorsement (preferred)
  • STCW Basic Training (preferred/required at higher levels)
  • DDE 1000 (preferred for Engineer III)
  • STCW - RFPEW (preferred for Engineer III+)
  • DDE 4000 (required for Engineer IV)
  • Any HP – 500 Ton (required for Engineer V)
  • STCW - OICEW (preferred for Engineer V)
  • Experience as Assistant or sole Engineer on tugs
  • Basic knowledge and troubleshooting abilities on electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems
  • Tow winch operation
  • Cleaning and maintaining an engine room to the Curtin Standard
  • Proficiency with Vessel Management System (VMS)
  • Understanding and compliance with Sub-M, ABS, and USCG requirements (Engineer II+)
  • Experience participating in external and internal audits (Engineer III+)
  • Leadership and management experience for senior engineer levels
