About the role

  • Define and execute a unified technology vision and roadmap across multiple independent portfolio companies.
  • Align technology initiatives with each company’s commercial and product objectives, ensuring scalability, security, and performance.
  • Evaluate and adopt emerging technologies (AI/LLMs, DevOps automation, cloudnative platforms) that enhance customer and business outcomes.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership on technology trends, architecture, and digital transformation.
  • Lead the modernization of legacy systems into modular, API-first, and cloud-native architectures.
  • Identify opportunities to embed AI and automation into products and development workflows.
  • Champion AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor) to boost productivity and code quality.
  • Guide teams in developing AI-powered capabilities such as predictive analytics, intelligent document handling, and process automation.
  • Oversee multiple distributed engineering teams across Europe and South Africa.
  • Mentor technical leaders and developers, fostering a culture of innovation, learning, and accountability.
  • Establish and enforce best practices in software development, testing, DevOps, and architecture governance.
  • Build technical leadership depth within each business to enable autonomy and longterm sustainability.
  • Standardize software delivery processes across portfolio companies to improve consistency and efficiency.
  • Define measurable KPIs around velocity, stability, and technical debt reduction.
  • Promote continuous improvement through retrospectives, shared learning, and portfolio-wide collaboration.
  • Balance innovation speed with disciplined execution and maintainability.
  • Partner with Product, Operations, and Finance leaders to align technology investments with business priorities.
  • Support M&A due diligence and post-acquisition technology assessments and integration for newly acquired companies.
  • Coordinate shared infrastructure, vendor relationships, and technology resources across the European portfolio.
  • Represent the technology function in strategic portfolio reviews and planning sessions.
  • Responsible for the budget of all development and IT investments including staff, tools and hosting.
  • Ensure all technology deliverables meet high standards for quality, security, and reliability.
  • Implement best practices in governance, compliance, and data protection across the portfolio.
  • Conduct regular technical audits and risk assessments, addressing issues proactively.
  • Lead initiatives to enhance system resilience, performance monitoring, and cyber readiness.
  • Lead annual compliance audits for companies with ISO27001 and SOC 2 Type II certifications and assist companies seeking certification.
  • Work with multiple teams to improve their Secure SDLC practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 5+ years in a senior technology leadership position (Director, VP, or CTO).
  • Proven success in leading multi-team or multi-company technology initiatives in SaaS or vertical market software environments.
  • Demonstrated experience in increasing productivity through vibe coding projects.
  • Strong technical foundation in .NET or similar, MS SQL Server, and cloud-based multi-tenant architectures (Azure).
  • Experience with modern frontend frameworks (React, Angular) and CI/CD DevOps practices like Github Actions.
  • Track record of platform modernization, cloud migration, and the integration of AIdriven tools or workflows.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, capable of influencing across diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Experience managing distributed or remote teams across multiple timezones.
